New Ownership for B-Mets
They are STAYING! That's the word from the new owner of the Binghamton Mets, John Hughes. Hughes represents Evans Street Baseball, Inc. and was introduced as the new owner at a news conference at NYSEG Stadium. The franchise was purchased from the Binghamton Mets Baseball Club, Inc headed by retiring President Michael Urda. The deal was finalized on Wednesday, December 23.
Hughes was quick to quell rumors that the Double-A Binghamton Mets would look to relocate, saying they are here to stay. Hughes says he will retain General Manager Jim Weed and the rest of the Binghamton Mets' staff.
The Binghamton Mets will celebrate their 25th season as members of the Eastern League this upcoming campaign. They have multi-year agreements in place with the New York Mets and the City of Binghamton. The Player Development Agreement (PDA) with New York is in place through the 2020 season while the lease with the City runs through 2022.
