NL Wild Card: Bucs Win First Post-Season Game in 21 Years
The Pittsburgh Pirates did something on Tuesday night that they haven't done in 21 seasons: win a playoff game.
The Bucs defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 in a one-game wild card playoff game at PNC Park. They now move on to take on the NL Central Champion St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Division Series. The NLDS begins on Thursday.
Russell Martin belted two home runs and hurler Francisco Liriano held the Reds in check by only giving up one run and four hits in seven innings. Meanwhile, Reds starter Johnny Cueto was hit hard and only lasted 3 1/3 innings.
In the American League, the Cleveland Indians will face the Tampa Bay Rays in their wild card game on Wednesday night in Cleveland. Tampa Bay beat Texas on Monday in the wild-card play-in game.
