C.J. Fair scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds to lead his No. 8 Syracuse Orange over the Golden Gophers of Minnesota 75-67 on Monday in round one of the Maui Invitational.

The Orange had control of most of the game, and even had a fourteen point lead at one point,  but the Gophers hung with Syracuse and pulled within two points with just over two minutes to play.  However, Minnesota committed four turnovers in the final minutes and the Orange were able to seal the victory.

Trevor Cooney had 15 points for the Orange, all on three pointers and Jerami Grant and Tyler Ennis both contributed 12.  Malik Smith led Minnesota with 16 points.

The 5-0 Orange advance to round two of the Maui Invitational and will take on the University of California on Tuesday night.
