The Pittsburgh Pirates edged the St. Louis Cardinals 5-3 on Sunday night and now own a 2 games to 1 series advantage in the best-of-five National League divisional series.

The Bucs and Cardinals were tied 3-3 going in to the bottom of the 8th inning when Pedro Alvarez and Russell Martin had back-to-back RBI singles to take a two-run lead.

The Cardinals had just tied the game in the top of the 8th on a Carlos Beltran homerun.

Jason Grilli sealed the victory in the ninth and the Bucs are now one win away from winning their first post-season series in nearly 35 years.

Game 4 is Monday night and features the pitching matchup of Charlie Mortin for the Pirates against rookie Michael Wacha for the Red Birds.
