Rangers' forward Brad Richards, who is out to prove himself this season, scored two goals and an embarrassing mistake by Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick lead the Blue Shirts to a 3-1 victory at the Staples Center Monday evening.

With the Rangers up 2-1 in the third period and on the penalty kill, Ryan McDonagh cleared the puck off of the boards and down the ice.  Quick's attempt to stop the puck before it reached the end boards failed as he lost his stick and the puck caromed off his blocker and trickled into his own net.

Star goalie Henrik Lundquist stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced and Rick Nash assisted on both of Richards' goals.

Jake Muzzin scored the loan Kings tally.

The Rangers have a quick turnaround as they will play Tuesday night in San Jose against the powerful Sharks.
