Rangers Drop Two Divisional Games This Weekend
After being beaten in overtime by the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, the New York Rangers fell to the Washington Capitals 4-1 on Sunday. The Rangers have now lost three of their last five games.
On Saturday against New Jersey, Chris Kreider scored a power-play goal with 21.3 seconds left to send the game into overtime. However, in the extra frame, Ryan Callahan took a double minor penalty for high-sticking and just 13 seconds later, Eric Gelinas one-timed a shot past Henrik Lundqvist to win the game 4-3.
On Sunday, the Rangers faced the Capitals after having shut them out three games in a row. The Caps scored three times in the second period, one on a questionably awarded penalty shot to Mikhail Grabovski.
Washington netminder Philipp Grubauer got his first NHL win of his career making 30 saves for the Capitals. Henrik Lundqvist took another tough loss for New York.
The Rangers will look to right the ship as their season long nine-game home-stand continues Tuesday night against the Nashville Predators.
