Two Quick Strikes Propel Lightning Over Rangers
The Tampa Bay Lightning scored two goals nine seconds apart in the second period to cool off the New York Rangers 2-1 on Tuesday night.
Victor Hedman scored at the 1:10 mark of the second period on the powerplay to tie the game at one. Brad Richards had scored his 12th of the season in the first for New York. Then just nine seconds later, and on a breakaway, Nikita Kucherov netted the eventual game winning goal.
Ben Bishop, returning from a sprained wrist he suffered on January 5th, made 33 saves for the win. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 23 in the losing effort.
The Rangers' three-game winning streak has come to an end as they fall to 24-21-3 on the season. Up next for the Blueshirts is a Thursday night contest with the Detroit Red Wings at home.
