The lobby of a KFC restaurant in Binghamton has been closed for weeks - and some people driving past the place have been wondering what's going on.

A Binghamton restaurant manager said it has nothing to do with the well-publicized chicken shortage affecting some British KFC locations.

The KFC restaurant on Robinson Street on Binghamton's East Side is being remodeled. The dining area has been closed for most of this month for the renovation project. The drive-thru window has remained open during the construction.

Workers have been busy in recent days completing the remodeling that will given the interior of the Binghamton restaurant a much brighter, more modern look. The newly-redesigned lobby is expected to open on Wednesday.

The East Side location was chosen first for a series of area KFC restaurant updates. Similar renovations are planned for KFC locations in Vestal, Owego and Norwich.

The local KFC restaurants are owned by the Kirmani Group of New York City.
