BU Men Open America East Conference Play
The Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team opens its "second season" Saturday afternoon with a home game against the New Hampshire Wildcats at 2:00 P.M. After a heartbreaking loss at the buzzer to Columbia at the Events Center on Wednesday night BU basically wipes the slate clean and starts over. Now it becomes all about earning a conference playoff spot and jockeying for the highest possible seed. The top four regular season finishers get a first round home playoff game.
New Hampshire and Binghamton have both struggled for wins in their conference slate. The Wildcats are 2-11 while the Bearcats are 4-11. The Wildcats may have lost more to graduation than any other America East team. One of the key losses was standout forward Tanner Leissner who was a potent weapon offensively and stellar defender as well. Iba Camara, New Hampshire's all-time rebound leader, also graduated as did forward Jacoby Armstrong who scored 1,000 points in his career. The Wildcats hold a 19-17 advantage in the series.
The Bearcats have lost nine straight games to the Wildcats. Most games have been close with the last six games decided by nine points or less.
Binghamton is led by standout freshman Sam Sessoms averaging 17.5 points per game. He had an amazing second half to lead the comeback effort against Columbia. Sessoms scored 21 of his 25 points hitting seven three-point baskets to bring Binghamton back from a 16-point deficit.
Saturday's game will be broadcast on News Radio 1290 WNBF. Airtime is set for 1:45 P.M.
