Construction Starts on Downtown Binghamton Parking Garage
Crews have started work on a long-delayed project to build a 300-space parking facility near Binghamton City Hall.
The $10 million garage is being constructed on property at Hawley and Washington streets.
Mayor Richard David said general contractor William H. Lane Incorporated began working at the site last week.
David said excavation work is underway to prepare for the foundation of the garage. The structure will be built using precast concrete sections.
The mayor told WNBF News on Monday the construction is permitted under the state's coronavirus pandemic guidelines. He said the work complies with the governor's executive order pertaining to essential and non-essential projects.
David said if there are no weather or other unforeseen problems, the garage project should be completed by the end of the year.
