Devils Top Phantoms in Shootout
The Binghamton Devils got a much needed road win last night as they defeated the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in a 2-1 shoot.
Its been a long strength of close games lost by the Devils, but last night’s defensive battle came down to Fabian Zetterlund and goaltender Zane McIntyre.
The first period ended in a goose egg for both teams, and the first half of period two remained scoreless, and then right on cue Marian Studenic on a penalty kill, beat goaltender Zane McIntyre with a shot through the legs into the net to take a 1-0 lead at 10:29 into the second period.
The Binghamton led 1-0 going into the third period, and held the lead until the 4:06 mark when The Phantoms Linus Hogberg scored his first American League Hockey goal with a shot off the post to even the score at 1-1
The reminder of the final period was scoreless, and remained 1-1 at the end of regulation.
Overtime was a defensive battle with both Senn and McIntyre protecting the net, and neither team giving up a goal, as the clock hit zero sending the game into a shootout.
In the third round of the shootout, Fabian Zetterlund’s shot went off the post and into the net giving the Binghamton Devils a 2-1 win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The Binghamton Devils will host the Hershey Bears, for another Northern Division match up, tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 7pm from the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House.
