Soon-to-be second year Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams faces gun possession charges after police say a pistol was confiscated at an airport.

According to the New York Post and numerous other outlets, Williams was arrested at LaGuardia Airport in New York City Thursday night.

A Port Authority spokesperson says Williams was attempted to board a flight around 9 p.m. Reports suggest Williams was allegedly carrying a loaded Glock 19 handgun in a carry-on bag.

The gun is reportedly licensed to Williams in the state of Alabama, but concealed carry can only be valid for firearms licensed in New York State under New York State law.

Initial reports suggested Williams had ammunition on him, would would have classified the firearm as "loaded", but the Port Authority spokesperson clarified later that Williams was not in possession of ammunition.

"Mr. Williams respects and follows the law," according to a statement to CBS Sports from Williams' attorney, Alex Spiro. "There was allegedly a technical issue with the manner in which the lawfully owned firearm was stored -- and we expect the matter to be resolved shortly."

Williams will be arraigned later this month.

He recorded 28 tackles and 2.5 sacks in his rookie season.
