Republican James Seward says his normal district schedule will be curbed for a few weeks while he undergoes treatment.

The 51rd district senator was diagnosed in 2016 and believed to have beaten the disease before the latest diagnosis.

Seward issued a statement saying while he will be taking time for treatment, his offices will remain open and staff will be able to assist constituents.

Seward is anticipating returning to Albany for the beginning of the new legislative session in January.

The Oneonta Republican was first elected to represent the 50th district in 1986 before district lines were redrawn and the Central New York and Hudson Valley areas were made into the 9-county 51st district.
