No.1 Orange Beats Clemson For 23rd Straight Win
C.J. Fair score 19 points, Jerami Grant had 12, and the No. 1 ranked Syracuse Orange went on to defeat the Clemson Tigers 57-44 on Sunday night.
Beating Clemson for the first time in three meetings, the undefeated Orange continue to extend its record for most wins to start a season, now at 23.
Coming off a game with Notre Dame in which most of the team struggled to find anything offensively, the Orange, while only scoring 57 points due to a slow-paced game, made their shots when it counted. Syracuse's defense did the rest, holding Clemson to a measly 27% shooting in the first half.
After a quick spurt from the Tigers in the early stages of the second half, the Orange clamped down and secured the victory.
It was the 10th time Clemson (15-7, 6-4) had faced the No. 1 team in the nation, and the Tigers have yet to win. The last time Clemson played a No. 1 team was against North Carolina, an 86-81 loss in the 2008 ACC tournament, and the Tigers' last true road game against the nation's No. 1 team was Feb. 8, 2004, an 81-55 loss at Duke.
Syracuse (23-0, 10-0) faces a tough road test on Wednesday when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on the No. 25 Panthers.
