Rain and Power Issues Linger in Southern Tier
New York State Electric and Gas is reporting a few linger problems in the Southern Tier service area following the passage of a nor’easter October 16.
There had been reports of a tree on power lines in Kirkwood in the late morning hours and overnight October 17 a little over four dozen residents in Afton reportedly had service interrupted. But it wasn’t clear if that was weather related.
By 5:30 a.m. NYSEG.com reported over 900 customers in Delaware County, most in the Town of Hancock, were without power and a restoration estimate of 10 a.m.
Most of the rain, which began in the early afternoon and became very heavy in the Binghamton area in the early evening October 16, moved out of the area before midnight.
There were no reports of major incidents involving flooding.
While many fans of the season have been looking forward to a peak in the fall foliage colors in the next few days, many of those leaves may have been brought down by the heavy rain and winds gusting over 30 miles per hour.
Motorists, meanwhile, should be aware of wet leaves on the road that could make for slippery conditions.
