Time For The New York Giants To Hand The Ball To The Right Guy
With the firing of general manager Dave Gettleman and head coach Joe Judge came the realization that the New York Giants football organization was a complete mess and it was time to get back to basics. New general manager Joe Schoen and his trusted head coach Brian Daboll should come to their own realization, no matter what anyone tells you, Big Blue had better start winning some football games quickly or the next hot-dynamic duo will be leading the Giants in 3 years. Translation: loyalty to any of the players of the past regime should go right out the window.
As a coach, you want players that elevate the players around them. Some players bring other players down to their level. The Giants have had a lot of that, mainly because they have tried to pretend that Daniel Jones is better than he is. It's time to move on, now, not after 4 or 5 games.
The other Giants quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, is 33 years old. He has played 12 NFL seasons and is with his 6th team. You have to be pretty good at your craft to stick around that long in the National Football League. I can't predict the future but I don't see Daniel Jones with any type of NFL quarterback job as a player when he is 33. Talyor told Mark Cannizzaro of nypost.com, “I’ve been through a lot and seen a lot, but no one that’s been around me or worked with me can ever say that I lack confidence or I ran and hid from anything that’s happened to me." Boy, it says a lot having a guy like that leading your huddle and the Giants need that more than ever.
How do the players feel about Taylor? Well, third-string quarterback Davis Webb, a veteran himself told nypost.com that Taylor “is the coolest teammate I’ve ever been around, one of my favorite people I’ve ever been around." Saquon Barkley added "He’s a smooth cat. I feel like that’s someone that ‘DJ’ (Daniel Jones) can lean on. He’s been a great teammate ever since he’s been here." There is no doubt that the Giants players do not want to ruffle any feathers, especially since Jones has been through so much in his young career.
It is time to move on from Jones. Owner John Mara wants to win football games. Winning 6 games is better than winning 5, especially in New York. The Giants fans don't want to hear about 'tanking' for another top draft pick. Figure it out and win games. Time for Big Blue to hand the ball to Tyrod Taylor and move on.
