Two Beers a Day Could Keep Away Bone Decay
Two scientists who truly love beer got tired of hearing people go on and on about how great wine is and about all the positive health benefits those who drink it experience and so they set out to prove that beer is just as good for us as wine.
According to the Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Charles Bamforth and Troy Casey centered their research around the health benefits of silicon which might sound like a really strange thing, but silicon actually helps build bones and connective tissues and believe it or not, the two scientists discovered that the average pint of beer contains about 15 milligrams of silicon.
While there's no official daily recommendation for how much silicon a person should consume on an average day, experts lean toward 20 and 50 milligrams a day. You know what that means, right? Drinking two or three pints of beer each day could be good for your bone health!
If you really want to increase your chances of strengthening your bones, reach for a barley-based beer because it's got more silicon than a wheat-based beer. But wait, there's more! India pale ales or any other highly "hopped" beers actually have the highest silicon content.
