Winter will be celebrated in Broome County this weekend.

The County Department of Parks, Recreation and Youth Services is bringing back Winterfest at Nathaniel Cole Park in the Town of Colesville February 22.

Events start at 7 Saturday morning with registration for the 8 a.m. ice fishing competition. Anglers must have a New York State Fishing license.  Final measures will be taken at 3 p.m.

Other Winterfest activities from 12-4 p.m.include sledding, music, skating, a bonfire, guided hikes and s'mores.

Animal Adventure Park, Ross Park Zoo and a Beer Garden featuring Beer Tree Brew Company will also be on hand.

Admission is free.

Organizers say it’s hoped having events like a winter festival will help encourage people to not only just get outside and moving around during the cold weather, but also celebrate the season.
